Retention and Recruitment for the Volunteer Emergency Services

2007 Version

The federation was organized in 1958 as a federation of state wide fire service organizations to act as a clearing house on emergency services related, and fire service specifically, legislative matters. It was formed to be an advocate on behalf of the state's emergency services workers, many, if not most, of whom are volunteers.

The Federation meets several times each year to review proposed legislation which would impact all emergency services, and especially the fire service, both paid and volunteer.

Over the years the Federation has worked to support such important legislation as the school window law, the state wide minimum building code, the volunteer firefighter's blue light law, the state emergency medical services act, and many others.

Every two years the organization, in cooperation with other statewide emergency services organizations, works to developed a legislative priority list which identifies important legislative initiatives which are then articulated to the general assembly member organizations.
